Welcome Marty Bird to this month's News from Wild Birds Unlimited!

The Dog Days of Summer
The dog days of summer are here and nature seems to be slowing down all over. While many birds, like the hummingbird, have already begun their migration, and almost all birds have completed nesting, the American Goldfinch is just beginning to raise its young. Goldfinches coordinate their nesting when thistle plants begin to produce their seeds. They use the plant down to line their nest cups, and the seed is a major source of food for the youngsters.

So, if you want to join in on this late summer action, make sure your finch feeders are filled with fresh seed and enjoy the Goldfinch as they chase away the dog days of summer. Learn more . . .

Invite Your Finches To A Feast!
Ever see a finch frenzy? Give the WBU Yellow Mesh Finch Feeder a try, and watch your finches flock to it. The mesh tube lets the finches land anywhere they want and feed in their most comfortable position. The mesh tube also keeps air circulating and keeps the Nyjer dry and fresh, which is important to our picky eaters. The yellow color attracts finches more quickly and the feeder comes with a lifetime guarantee. It is easy to fill and hangs just about anywhere.

Hummingbirds can engage in some truly awesome aerial acrobatics flying forward, backward, and sideways and even stopping completely in mid-air. All of this activity takes an incredible amount of energy! Be sure to keep your hummingbird feeders filled to help nature's smallest birds fuel up for fall migration.

Learn more about hummingbirds.

Hummingbirds lap up nectar with their long tongues. There is a groove on either side of the tongue that creates a capillary action to help draw the nectar up the tongue and into the mouth during the lapping action. Learn more about hummingirds.
