Suet Feeding
Place a suet feeder in your backyard and get ready for a sensational
show! Many birds – including woodpeckers, chickadees and nuthatches –
savor suet! |
|
Here’s why:
Suet is a high-energy, pure-fat substance that birds can enjoy all year
long. It can be particularly helpful in winter when many birds have a hard
time finding the insects they normally eat, and they need more calories to
stay warm. Some suet is plain and some suet contains nuts, raisins or
other fruit, corn, insects and calcium. There are a variety of flavors to
suit your birds’ tastes – even Peanut Butter’n Jelly! All Wild Birds
Unlimited suet is rendered, which means the suet is refined to remove
impurities that can cause spoilage. If suet is not rendered, it can spoil
quickly. Suet vs. suet dough
You can decide whether to offer birds suet or suet dough by
considering the time of year and temperature. You can provide Wild Birds
Unlimited suet to your birds all year long. It melts only when
temperatures reach 100 degrees F (38 degrees C). When the temperatures
soar try suet dough, which melts at 150 degrees F (66 degrees C). |
